NXNE 2012: Day One

On this first day of NXNE 2012 I really didn’t do much – unfortunately that will probably be the case with this entire festival because I’ll be working the MMVAs this weekend and am just generally pretty busy with stuff. That being said, I did a bit.

First thing I did was check out Saul Colt‘s conference about social marketing, which was excellent. The guy’s been involved with Zipcar, Rogers, and the website Freshbooks and is now doing a lot of speaking stuff – I can see why he’s doing the latter: he’s a bit (or more) on the shlubby side but totally owns it and is just really funny and clever in the the things he comes up with to generate buzz around a project. Let’s see, what was one of the funny things he said…I think the best was about how in order to get people talking about him, instead of giving them business cards he’d give them keys to his hotel rooms with a really creepy look, then sleep with the couch agains the door for fear of getting raped. That was a good one. Anyways – I’d definitely follow him on twitter. Funny stuff.

Then I went to see a free screening of Safety Not Guaranteed, which was pretty cool, and then after some other stuff, my crew and I headed over to the Drake Hotel.

At the Drake I caught the tale end of Mac DeMarco‘s set which was good stuff – I got the feeling that it was a pretty awesome set, the room seemed pretty hyped and he was a fun onstage personality.

After that Porcelain Raft went on and even though I’m like a big fan of Porcelain Raft, for some reason it just seemed like he was playing a bunch of super boring songs I’d never heard, so after a couple my crew and I just left and went for drinks elsewhere.

So yeah, whatever, still a fun first night.

I think your auto correct changed the word sexy to shlubby.
