Rich Aucoin

Halifax’s human endorphin-producing machine Rich Aucoin has a new album coming out called Ephemeral. Dropping September 9th, the full-length apparently syncs up with the 1979 claymation film adaptation of The Little Prince, which is just so perfectly Rich Aucoin. For those joining the party a little late, Rich synced up his 2007 Personal Publication EP with the animated The Grinch cartoon from the 60s.

If you can’t wait until the 9th to hear the full album, it’s streaming over at

Each Other

I lived in Halifax for my first year of university. I never actually went to the Khyber but I knew that it was like ground zero for the city’s best indie rock. The centre recently released a great compilation featuring pretty much all the best music makers coming out of the city (except maybe like Rich Aucoin) – I highly recommend listening to like, the entire thing. Really cool.

The track posted is actually from Montreal-based Each Other, but apparently they were from Halifax or something? I don’t know, it’s on the comp, whatever.

Long Long Long

Halifax-based Long Long Long was recommended to me recently by Rich Aucoin‘s manager. Sure, they’re another scruffy indie rock band with cool hooks and noisy guitars – but I’m down with that.

I’ve known Rich Aucoin for years now after hearing his stuff on a friend’s blog and meeting him at Over the Top Fest in 2007. Not only is the Halifax maestro super friendly, but he’s super awesome and getting pretty popular these days. At a packed Tiger Bar show this week I finally got a chance to see (and witness!) some of his new material in action and it is amazing. You can stream his recently-released Public Publication EP below. Also check out some footage of the man in action cuz he’s got one of the best live shows anyone anywhere’s ever seen.

You can also buy a dl of the EP off his website.
